Raeesul Jumhooriya Dr. Muhammed Muizzu and the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, today jointly inaugurated the Dhoshimeyna Building, the new headquarters of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), marking a significant step forward in Maldives–India defence cooperation.
The eleven-storey Ministry of Defence (MoD) building, constructed with financial assistance from the Government of India, is located in the heart of Malé. Overlooking the Indian Ocean, the building stands as a powerful symbol of the enduring and strategic partnership between the Maldives and India.
Designed to enhance the operational and administrative capabilities of the MNDF, the new facility will contribute to improved national defence coordination, emergency response, and public safety efforts.
The inauguration ceremony took place during Prime Minister Modi’s state visit to the Maldives, following a series of high-level engagements between the two leaders. These included official bilateral talks at the President’s Office and a symbolic tree planting ceremony at Sultan Park—both events reinforcing shared commitments to partnership and sustainability.
In a statement released by the President’s Office, the Dhoshimeyna Building was hailed as a milestone in bilateral ties, reflecting the nations’ joint dedication to peace, security, and regional stability.
Earlier in the day, India also presented 72 vehicles to the MNDF under a previously signed defence cooperation agreement, further supporting the Force’s mobility and logistics capacity.
