Malé, 19 July 2025 — President Dr Mohamed Muizzu returned to Malé today following a landmark visit to the United Kingdom, marking the sixtieth anniversary of Maldives–UK diplomatic relations. During his four-day mission, Dr Muizzu met with key British leaders—including Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP in the House of Commons and Foreign Secretary David Lammy—securing renewed UK support for climate adaptation, justice-sector reform, education and scholarship opportunities, sustainable fisheries, tourism diversification, and renewable energy partnerships. A private audience with King Charles III at Windsor Castle underscored the deep historical connection between the nations as they celebrated six decades of collaboration.
The President also engaged with Commonwealth Secretary‑General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and delivered a keynote address at the Maldives–UK Business Forum in London. There, he advocated for increased British investment across five strategic sectors—creative industries, digital transformation, renewable energy, fisheries and ocean innovation, and tourism infrastructure—and officiated the launch of the new “From Maldives” fisheries brand. An MoU was signed between the West London Chambers of Commerce and the Maldives’ Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, signaling a deeper economic partnership.
President Muizzu’s return with freshly established agreements, brand initiatives, and cross-sectoral diplomatic achievements highlights the Maldives’ forward-looking agenda—one that blends sustainable development, economic diversification and global climate advocacy—with the aim of translating sixty years of bilateral friendship into a dynamic, future-oriented partnership.
