Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions has launched an investigation into Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) Vice President Mohamed Fazeen following allegations of sexual harassment.
The inquiry, which began on January 20, 2025, was prompted by a complaint from a female employee. Fazeen was summoned to a closed-door parliamentary session on January 21 to address the allegations. The nature of the complaint has not been publicly disclosed, but the case has raised concerns within Broadcom.
Despite the investigation, Fazeen continues to report to work, while the alleged victim is on leave and reportedly undergoing psychological treatment. Several Broadcom employees have expressed frustration over the lack of official action. The Broadcasting Commission itself has not issued any public statement regarding the case.
Although cases of harassment usually fall under the Parliament’s Human Rights and Gender Committee, this case is being handled by the Committee on Independent Institutions due to Fazeen’s senior role at Broadcom.
The Parliament has yet to announce any decision on disciplinary action, and the investigation remains ongoing.
