Former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh Passes Away at 92

Former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has passed away at the age of 92 following a sudden health crisis. The renowned economist and leader, who served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, had been receiving treatment for age-related medical conditions. Dr. Singh lost consciousness at his residence, and despite immediate resuscitation efforts and being rushed to AIIMS, New Delhi, he was declared dead at 9:51 PM after prolonged medical attempts to revive him.

 

Dr. Singh is widely celebrated for his role in transforming India’s economy. As Finance Minister in the early 1990s, he was instrumental in implementing economic reforms that liberalized India’s economy, propelling the country onto the global stage. His leadership as Prime Minister further solidified India’s position in the international community, earning him admiration both domestically and globally.

 

Dr. Singh also played a significant role in enhancing India’s relations with neighboring countries, particularly the Maldives. Throughout his tenure, he worked to deepen the bilateral ties between the two nations, focusing on shared priorities such as economic development, security, and regional stability.

His leadership led to stronger cooperation between India and the Maldives, underpinned by mutual respect and shared interests. Dr. Singh’s visit to the Maldives in 2011 for the 17th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit underscored India’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation.
