Mal\u00e9 \/ Hulhumal\u00e9, Maldives \u2013 July 27, 2025: In a major stride towards strengthening the national healthcare system, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Saturday inaugurated two key medical facilities \u2014 the Hulhumal\u00e9 Dialysis Centre and MCGH Opticals in Mal\u00e9. Both initiatives, under the Mal\u00e9 City Group of Hospitals, aim to make essential medical services more accessible and affordable for the Maldivian public.<\/p>\n
The newly opened Hulhumal\u00e9 Dialysis Centre, located at the Orange Hiya building, features 30 dialysis beds and is designed to serve patients with chronic kidney disease. The facility will help alleviate the need for patients to travel abroad for life-sustaining treatment.<\/p>\n
The inauguration began with a video presentation, followed by a tour of the state-of-the-art facility. Managed by the Mal\u00e9 City Group of Hospitals, the centre represents a significant step forward in localising critical healthcare services.<\/p>\n
President Muizzu reiterated his administration\u2019s commitment to ending dependency on foreign medical services. Over MVR 400 million worth of healthcare development projects are currently in progress across the Maldives to support this goal.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the day, President Muizzu inaugurated MCGH Opticals at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Mal\u00e9. The optical centre \u2014 operational just two months after its announcement \u2014 offers services such as eye prescription assessments, diagnosis of eye conditions, and prescription glasses dispensing.<\/p>\n
At the event, the President toured the facility and handed over glasses to the first three customers. The initiative follows the Government\u2019s decision on 31 May to raise the Aasandha scheme allowance for prescription eyewear to MVR 2,000, ensuring cost-effective access to vision care.<\/p>\n
Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, CEO of the Mal\u00e9 City Group of Hospitals, announced that similar optical facilities will be opened in Hulhumal\u00e9 and five regional hospitals starting next month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
