Mal\u00e9, November 24, 2024<\/em> \u2013 The President\u2019s Office has issued updated guidelines for submitting legal documents to the Government of Maldives Gazette, effective immediately. The changes, announced in a directive on Sunday, aim to streamline the publication process while ensuring adherence to legal and linguistic standards.<\/p>\n

Starting today, all government ministries and institutions are required to send legal documents to the President\u2019s Office via legalaffairs@po.gov.mv<\/a><\/strong> for publication in the Gazette.<\/p>\n

For documents already submitted that require amendments, revised versions must be resubmitted under Directive No. 4\/2015. These must be accompanied by a covering letter signed by the relevant minister or official in charge. For state agencies and institutions outside ministry oversight, revisions must also include the responsible official\u2019s signature.<\/p>\n

  1. Consultation with Attorney General\u2019s Office<\/strong>
    \nMinistries and institutions must seek legal advice from the Attorney General\u2019s Office before drafting documents for publication. Records of this consultation, including the Attorney General\u2019s advice, must be attached.<\/li>\n
  2. Designation of Focal Points<\/strong>
    \nEach institution must appoint a focal point to oversee the submission process. The name, title, and contact information of the designated individual must be shared with the President\u2019s Office.<\/li>\n
  3. Legal and Linguistic Review<\/strong>
    \nDocuments must be reviewed for compliance with legal standards and linguistic accuracy before submission. Necessary corrections should be made prior to publication.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The President\u2019s Office clarified that while these procedural updates are now in effect, the overarching guidelines from Directive No. 11\/2010 and Directive No. 25\/2010 remain unchanged. These directives mandate that all legal documents submitted for publication must be prepared with the Attorney General\u2019s advice.<\/p>\n

    The updated process reflects the administration\u2019s commitment to improving the efficiency and accuracy of legal document publication.<\/p>\n
