Beirut, November 24, 2024<\/em> \u2013 Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned Israel’s recent strike on a Lebanese army center in al-Amiriya, a southern border town, as a clear rejection of ongoing efforts to establish a ceasefire.<\/p>\n

In a statement shared on X, Mikati criticized the attack, calling it a “brazen rejection” of peace discussions. “The messages of the Israeli enemy, rejecting any solution, continue and are written in Lebanese blood,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mikati reiterated Lebanon\u2019s adherence to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which was adopted to end the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah conflict. The resolution stipulates that only Lebanese armed forces and UN peacekeepers should operate in the area between Israel’s border and the Litani River, approximately 30 kilometers north.<\/p>\n

“The government, which expressed its commitment to implementing international resolution 1701 and strengthening the army\u2019s presence in the south, calls on the countries of the world and international institutions to assume their responsibilities,” Mikati added, urging global actors to intervene and uphold international agreements.<\/p>\n

The Israeli strike on al-Amiriya comes amid heightened tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border, exacerbated by the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. Skirmishes between the Israeli military and Hezbollah fighters in southern Lebanon have raised fears of a broader regional escalation.<\/p>\n
