The Maldives Police have announced a month-long initiative aimed at tackling the issue of fraudulent bank transfer slips. Throughout October, the police will conduct an awareness campaign across shops, cafes, restaurants, and hotels<\/strong> in the Mal\u00e9 area to educate businesses on detecting and preventing the use of fake transfer slips.<\/p>\n

As part of the initiative, the police will:<\/p>\n

  1. Monitor the rise of fake transfer slips<\/strong> presented by customers after receiving services.<\/li>\n
  2. Evaluate the reliance on bank transfers<\/strong> within businesses and provide guidance on best practices.<\/li>\n
  3. Educate businesses on verifying payment authenticity<\/strong>, including how to check bank statements, transaction references, and differentiate between genuine and suspicious transfer slips.<\/li>\n
  4. Ensure businesses use official channels<\/strong> such as bank apps, SMS, or email to confirm payments before providing goods or services.<\/li>\n
  5. Investigate past issues<\/strong> related to fake or delayed bank transfers over the last six months.<\/li>\n
  6. Provide guidance on fraud prevention<\/strong>, advising businesses on how to act if fraud is suspected and highlighting the importance of noting the characteristics of individuals involved in fraudulent transactions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This initiative seeks to empower businesses by equipping them with the tools and knowledge to identify fake bank transfers and protect themselves from financial fraud. The police will visit all businesses in the capital area by the end of the month to ensure that these measures are well understood and implemented.<\/p>\n
