Civil Service Salary Increment Under Review, Confirms CSC President Nasih

Malé | Raajje24 — Civil Service Commission (CSC) President Mohamed Nasih has confirmed that discussions are ongoing regarding salary increments for all civil servants, in line with a key pledge made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Nasih made the announcement while speaking at the inauguration of the Local Government Ministry’s “Aharu Medhu Muraajaa” (Mid-Year Review) meeting. He revealed that the Pay Commission is actively engaging with various government ministries to review salary structures and explore possibilities for adjustments.

As part of the government’s 2025 budget, MVR 500 million has already been earmarked to harmonize pay between civil servants and judicial sector employees, indicating a step towards comprehensive reform in the public sector wage system.

Currently, the Maldivian Civil Service employs over 30,000 personnel. While last year’s national budget allocated MVR 12 billion towards civil servant salaries, this year’s figure has increased to MVR 13.9 billion, reflecting a heightened commitment to workforce development.

President Nasih also took the opportunity to emphasize discipline and productivity in the civil service. He urged all public employees to prioritize their official duties during working hours and avoid delaying tasks in anticipation of overtime payments. He underlined the need to maximize time spent in the workplace and warned that misusing official time undermines both efficiency and public trust.

In closing, Nasih highlighted the importance of conducting regular departmental reviews and addressing the root causes behind incomplete or delayed work. He said this would not only improve service delivery but also ensure that the government’s development goals are effectively met.
