Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in the Maldives on a state visit, following an invitation from Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
PM Modi was received by President Muizzu at Velana International Airport (VIA) upon arrival. A formal welcome ceremony will be held later today.
This marks Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to the Maldives since starting his third term in office. His visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of Maldives’ independence and the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Maldives and India.
During his visit, Modi is expected to hold official talks with President Muizzu to strengthen bilateral relations. The leaders will also exchange several Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements, followed by joint press statements.
The visit is seen as a key moment in reaffirming close ties and cooperation between the two nations in areas including infrastructure, defence, climate, and regional security.
