Hulhumalé – June 26, 2025 (Raajje24) — Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) bid farewell to Warrant Officer 2 Ali Hamid with full military honours, following his untimely passing in a tragic sea accident near Kaashidhoo on Tuesday.
The funeral was held at 22:45 on Wednesday night at Masjid Zaid bin Thabit, Hulhumalé Cemetery. The ceremony was attended by senior officials including Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, and Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyath. Fellow officers, soldiers, and members of the public also gathered to pay their final respects.
MNDF officers mounted a ceremonial guard of honour as the body was presented for final viewing. After the funeral prayer, the national flag-draped casket was carried by military pallbearers, followed by a solemn seven-gun salute. The national flag was formally handed over to Ali Hamid’s family as a mark of honour.
Warrant Officer 2 Ali Hamid, originally from Th. Hirilandhoo, joined the MNDF on April 21, 1998. With 27 years of dedicated service, he was known among colleagues as a disciplined and committed officer who served his country with unwavering pride and professionalism. His service number was 3433.

In addition to local training, Ali Hamid completed courses in Bangladesh and received extensive training in Coast Guard and firefighting operations.
In his honour, the MNDF has announced that the military flag will fly at half-mast from 00:00 tonight until 00:00 tomorrow.
In a statement, MNDF said Warrant Officer Ali Hamid died while on active duty and described his passing as a profound loss to the institution.
“All soldiers join in deep sorrow and extend heartfelt condolences to his family. May Allah grant Warrant Officer 2 Ali Hamid the eternal bliss of the highest paradise.”
