Malé, November 24, 2024 – The President’s Office has issued updated guidelines for submitting legal documents to the Government of Maldives Gazette, effective immediately. The changes, announced in a directive on Sunday, aim to streamline the publication process while ensuring adherence to legal and linguistic standards.
Starting today, all government ministries and institutions are required to send legal documents to the President’s Office via legalaffairs@po.gov.mv for publication in the Gazette.
For documents already submitted that require amendments, revised versions must be resubmitted under Directive No. 4/2015. These must be accompanied by a covering letter signed by the relevant minister or official in charge. For state agencies and institutions outside ministry oversight, revisions must also include the responsible official’s signature.

- Consultation with Attorney General’s Office
Ministries and institutions must seek legal advice from the Attorney General’s Office before drafting documents for publication. Records of this consultation, including the Attorney General’s advice, must be attached. - Designation of Focal Points
Each institution must appoint a focal point to oversee the submission process. The name, title, and contact information of the designated individual must be shared with the President’s Office. - Legal and Linguistic Review
Documents must be reviewed for compliance with legal standards and linguistic accuracy before submission. Necessary corrections should be made prior to publication.
The President’s Office clarified that while these procedural updates are now in effect, the overarching guidelines from Directive No. 11/2010 and Directive No. 25/2010 remain unchanged. These directives mandate that all legal documents submitted for publication must be prepared with the Attorney General’s advice.
The updated process reflects the administration’s commitment to improving the efficiency and accuracy of legal document publication.
