The government has finally decided to disclose the reason why Maldivian military personnel, who have been trained to operate Dornier aircraft gifted by India, are not allowed to fly these vehicles.
Initially, Indian military personnel were operating the Dornier aircraft used for transporting patients in the Maldives. However, after the current government came to power, Indian civilians have begun operating these aircraft.
When a journalist submitted a request to the Ministry of Defense under the Right to Information Act to clarify whether Maldivian officers had flown Dornier aircraft to any extent, the ministry decided not to disclose this information, stating that it was information that could pose a threat to national security.
The Defense Ministry decided not to provide this information under Article 29 of the Right to Information Act. This article states that information that could endanger national security if disclosed can be kept confidential.”
